Pigs On the Move

Pigs are funny critters. We really enjoy them on the ranch. During the summer the pigs get the entire ranch to roam around, root and eat as much green grass as possible, but during the winter months we have to change their lifestyle a little bit. We usually try to have all the pigs harvested before winter, but sometimes they are just not big enough to harvest so we bring them closer to home and put them in a place that they can freely root and have all the feed they want. Today we moved them to a new home that'll allow them to root up my future garden plot this summer. I enjoy sitting next to my window and watching the pigs constantly move, root and play in the mud. I decided to set up a camera next to their pen so I could record what they do within 30 minutes. You'll see that pigs don't really slow down!

Each email in the series explains a different pressure facing ranchers today and how these issues ultimately impact consumers. Most importantly, it highlights why supporting small, local, transparent producers matters now more than ever.
