Packing for Delivery: At this time, we do not use any special insulation for delivery. We keep all our boxes in our coolers up until we deliver it to your door. How Do You Raise Your Beef? Our beef are raised by their mothers where they get unlimited mothers milk and high quality grass. Between 6 months of age and one year we wean the calves from their momma’s and they eat high quality pasture. The pastures on the ranch are a mix of wild meadow grass, clover and non-gmo alfalfa, we do not use chemical fertilizers or herbicides. We use low-stress handling techniques on our cattle. They never receive any grains, antibiotics or growth hormones.
Is Your Meat Grass-fed? We do not like the terminology "grass-fed" anymore because it has been misused. All our animals are pasture-raised, meaning they are on pasture their whole life. Our cattle and sheep are 100% grass-fed and finished, meaning they eat nothing but grass their entire lives, no grains. Our pigs and chicken receive supplemental non-GMO grains but live on the pasture their entire life.
What Does "All Natural" Mean? “All Natural” is an abused term that confuses many buyers. It simply means that the animal has never been given any antibiotics through injection. However, this does not include eaten antibiotics, which lots of cattle receive in feedlot situations. On our ranch we do NOT give any antibiotics to our animals that end up being butchered.
Is Your Meat Organic? This has a two-part answer. Yes and no. Yes, our practices are organic. We do NOT use pesticides on our property. No. Organic labeling is extremely expensive and a cumbersome loop to jump through to have a fancy label on our beef. We cannot call our meat “organic” because the USDA technically has rights on what is labeled organic and what is not. Also, we run our cattle on federal range 9 months of the year. The BLM sprays weeds on the federal land, which in turn would not allow us to consider our beef organic. However, don’t let this worry you. Our cattle run on 100,000 acres of rangeland. The weeds that the BLM spray are few in number and our cows do not eat the sprayed weeds.
Do You Use Herbicides Or Fertilizers On Your Property? No, we never use herbicides or synthetic fertilizers on our property.
Do You Use mRNA Vaccines? No, we do not use mRNA vaccines — and we have no intention of using them now or in the future. This applies to all livestock raised here on our Idaho pastures, as well as at the small family farms we partner with.
In rare cases where there’s a serious risk of illness (like Tetanus in cattle or Avian Influenza in poultry), we may use conventional vaccines — similar to what’s allowed under organic standards. These are used only when truly necessary for the health and well-being of the animal. When a vaccine is used, we ensure there’s plenty of time for it to clear the animal’s system well before harvest.
That said, our priority is always prevention. By raising animals on open pasture, with fresh air, natural forage, and low-stress handling, we’ve been able to greatly reduce — and in many cases avoid — the need for vaccines altogether. Our goal has always been the same: to raise animals with care, integrity, and respect, and to offer meat you can trust.
How Do You Raise Your Pork? There are few things more delicious than a well-raised pig. Pastured pork is hard to come by because pigs are difficult to raise in more arid environments. They are designed to be in forests tilling up the soft ground with their noses looking for nuts and acorns, but out here in the west, we don’t have this perfect pig paradise, but we do our best to allow pigs to still be pigs! Our pigs are raised outside on pasture and allowed to graze our grass and alfalfa. However, it’s not possible for us to raise pigs without grain, so their main diet consists of barley and peas (all non-GMO feeds). These piggies have NEVER been given hormones or antibiotics. Due to their natural destructive nature (using their noses to root the soil up), not many people are willing to raise pastured pigs and consequently raise them on confined concrete pads. So try our pastured pork and be amazed at the complexity of flavor that only a pig that’s been on pasture can produce.
What Type Of Feed Do The Pigs Receive? The pigs receive barley and peas for their supplemental grain, which both are a non-GMO crop.
How Do You Raise Your Chickens? Our pasture raised chickens are on pasture from the time they are 3 weeks old up until the they are harvested between 6-8 weeks old. They are fed a non-GMO feed ration and are free to eat lots of grass and bugs! These chickens are very juicy and full of flavor! No hormones, antibiotics or other junk! Just great tasting chicken.
What Type Of Feed Do Your Chickens Receive? We have a local non-GMO source of chicken feed for our pastured chickens. It does contain corn and wheat, but it is non-GMO.
Why Not Organic Feed For Your Chickens? We get lots of questions about the type of feed we give our chickens. Why don't we use organic certified feeds for our chickens. It comes down to price and accessibility. As of right now organic feed is extremely hard to source and has to be shipped out of state, which makes it difficult to get and increases the cost to a point we feel that consumers would not be willing to pay. Instead we work hard to source quality Non-GMO feed from local farmers. We have had this feed independently tested and it has come back certified Non-GMO.
As of 1/1/19 here is exactly what is in the feed that we give the chickens (it is non-GMO, but does contain corn, soy, and wheat):
Ground Non-GMO Corn- 25.32%
Roasted Cull Beans - 18.56%
Cull Peas - 24.90%
Non-GMO Soybean Oil - 3.18%
Premix (vitamins) - 3.41%
Wheat - 24.63%
It does contain corn, wheat and a small amount of soybean oil. So for those extremely sensitive to these products we recommend not buying the chicken.
How Do You Raise Your Lamb? Our lamb comes from our small hair-sheep flock. The lamb is typically between 9-12 months of age when they are prime for harvest. From the moment they are born they are on grass, weeds and leafy plants. Lambs are typically twins, triplets and sometimes quadruplets! We never use grain supplements, antibiotics, de-wormers or hormones. We love our lambs! They are robust and easy to raise, not to mention extremely delicious!
